International Children's Summer Games 2019 took place in Ufa
On July 10–13, the International Children's Games were held in the capital of Bashkortostan, bringing together 1,500 athletes, coaches and guests from 29 countries and 85 cities of the world.
It was the first time that Ufa hosted such a large-scale sports tournament. Ufa has already hosted the International Children’s Winter Games 2013 welcoming 800 children from 59 cities and 20 countries.
Athletes competed for 88 medals in nine kinds of sports during three days. The new Sports Training Center in Ufa hosted Greco-Roman wrestling, swimming and fencing tournaments
Actually, the tournament program was only the tiny part of the Children's Games. The most important was that these Games was the perfect opportunity for children aged 12 to 15 to meet new friends from different countries. Whereas Ufa was just a small point on a huge map of Russia for most of them before the Games, now it is a city where their new friends live.
As for Ufa, it was a great opportunity to gain international exposure, which the city made use of, indeed. International Children's Games President Torsten Rasch named the 53rd tournament one of the most successful in its history.
Young athletes from Ufa delivered excellent results in Games. The Ufa team took the first place by the non-official ranking with the total medal count of 25 medals.
During the 53rd International Children's Games closing ceremony Ufa handed over the Games flag to the Hungarian city of Kecskemet, which will host the competition in 2020.
